Short and Long-Term Parking in New Jersey

Off-street parking, on-street metered parking, and residential permit parking in New Brunswick, NJ, is managed by New Brunswick Parking Authority (NBPA).

On-Street Parking

On-street parking is metered and time-limited in specific commercial and retail areas. Metered parking on downtown streets, such as Easton Avenue, French Street, and George Street, has progressive rates. Current rates are:

  • One to two hours: $2.00
  • Third hour: $3.00
  • Fourth hour: $4.00
  • Fifth hour: $5.00
  • Sixth hour: $6.00
  • Seventh hour: $7.00
  • Eighth hour: $8.00

Some areas have non-progressive rates of $2.00 per hour. Maximum hours and times vary by location.

Off-Street Parking

NBPA maintains off-street parking lots and garages throughout New Brunswick, including:

  • Civic Square Deck
  • Gateway Garage
  • Liberty Plaza Lot
  • Lower Church Street Deck
  • Morris Street Deck
  • New Street Deck
  • Paterson Street Deck
  • Plum Street Garage
  • Wellness Deck

Hourly, daily, and monthly parking are available. Rates vary by location. All NBPA facilities are regularly patrolled by security personnel.

Train Station Parking

The New Brunswick area is serviced by two primary train depots: New Brunswick and Metropark stations. Commuters can take NJ Transit or Amtrak from either location: both stations are on Amtrak’s Northeast Regional line, as well as NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line. At each station, drivers will find multiple parking lots for convenient park-and-ride services. New Brunswick station also has limited on-street parking.

Alternate Side: Parking New Jersey

Alternate side parking is typically in effect from April 1 to October 31. When alternate side parking is in effect, drivers must move their cars to allow street sweepers to keep curbs clean. NBPA will provide information on specific dates each year.
