SUMMARY:Windows of Understanding
DESCRIPTION:Windows of Understanding Public Art Project \nThe vision for this public art project is to transform our “main street” spaces into literal windows of understanding; spaces in which the community can learn about the positive strides being made by local organizations around a wide array of social justice issues that don’t make daily headlines. Windows of Understanding is a creative\, community-building response to the negativity and hate being perpetuated in today’s media landscape. Our belief is that through visual language\, artists can communicate methods of understanding in powerful ways that cut across cultural boundaries. \nNow entering its fifth year\, over 20 non-profit organizations will be paired with an artist facilitator to create an original work of art that addresses the following issues: CLIMATE CHANGE; ECONOMIC JUSTICE; PUBLIC HEALTH; and FROM PROTEST TO POLICY. The works will be on display at venues throughout New Brunswick\, Highland Park\, Metuchen\, and South Plainfield NJ from January 17- February 28\, 2022. \nVirtual and hybrid programming such as panel discussions\, educational workshops\, community conversations\, and wellness sessions complement the visual displays throughout the run. \n2022 FEATURED ARTISTS  \nSarah Attalla\, Usra Attalla\, and Dr. Raza Zia\, Memorial Installation \nHelene Brenenson\, Healthier Middlesex \nK Brown\, NJ Harm Reduction Coalition \nHiawatha Cuffee\, RCHP Affordable Housing Corporation \nLauren Curtis\, Stop the Williams/ NESE Pipeline Coalition \nRobert Diken\, Highland Park Gives a Hoot \nBobby Duncan\, The Citizens Campaign \nSonya Elefante\, Sustainable South Plainfield \nMelisa Gerecci\, Rutgers Urban Ag Lab \nMartina Hannah\, Rutgers Student Food Pantry \nCristina Hoyos\, Middlesex County Center for Empowerment \nSalma Hussein Qutub\, The Black Community Watchline \nSamantha Knierim\, Elijah’s Promise \nDavid LaMorte\, Metuchen First Presbyterian Church Food Pantry \nJames Long\, Brady Organization to End Gun Violence \nLuciana Mallozzi\, Moms Demand Action \nJohn Marron\, Replenish \nRia Monga\, The League of Women Voters \nMartryce Roach\, NJ Black Women’s Physicians Association \nCarmen Serrano Luna\, NAACP New Brunswick Area Chapter \nRobynTrimboli-Russo\, The Rutgers Climate Institute \nKelly Vetter\, Food & Water Watch NJ \nVENUE LOCATION OF DISPLAYED WORKS  \nNew Brunswick\nHighland Park \nMetuchen \nSouth Plainfield
